A new study, ASPirin in Reducing Events in the Elderly (ASPREE), has been posted to the AgingResearchBiobank website. Data and biospecimens from this study are now available for request. ASPREE was a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial designed to investigate and resolve uncertainty regarding the effects of aspirin used for primary prevention amongst older persons. Of relevance, the main trial findings demonstrated a higher risk benefit among older adults taking daily low dose aspirin for primary prevention. This led to revised prescribing guidelines by the USPSTF including a recommendation against initiating low-dose aspirin for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in adults 60 years or older.
