The AgingResearchBiobank Specimen Repository is an "open" scientific resource. The mission of the Repository is to acquire quality biospecimen collections and data from NIA funded clinical studies and make them available using standardized procedures to qualified investigators.

The submission of Study biospecimens to AgingResearchBiobank for long term storage and distribution is by application only. Applications are subject to review and assessment by an NIA review group (Biobank Internal Advisory Committee). The application and review process is detailed in Preparation and Submission of Biospecimen Collections (PDF - 572.8 KB). The process can take up to twelve months from the application submission date to complete. Of note, biospecimens cannot be transferred to the Biorepository before the Study data are transferred to AgingResearchBiobank.

NIA Studies interested in submitting an application should contact their NIA Program Officer at least 18 months prior to the end of the Study funding period to discuss the application requirements.

Applications can be submitted throughout the year, but are reviewed two times a year.

The submission process is initiated at the Submit Request to Deposit Your Study (Biospecimens and Data) page, and the documents described in Preparation and Submission of Biospecimen Collections (PDF - 572.8 KB) are required including the AgingResearchBiobank Incoming Biospecimen Collection Questionnaire (DOCX - 124.1 KB) and Informed Specimen Consent Questionnaire (DOCX - 87 KB).
